Sheikh Atef Mahgoub
Sheikh Atef Mahgoub was the Religious Director at the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh for 7 years. In this capacity he oversaw all religious and educational programs and activities (including the Youth, Outreach and special Ramadan programs). He also led daily, Friday, Taraweeh and Eid prayers, taught weekly educational classes for youth and adults, provided marriage and funeral services and various forms of guidance for community members, and participated in interfaith and outreach activities. He also published scholarly articles and books while interacting with media for television and radio appearances. He represented the Islamic Center as a guest lecturer at various other organizations and universities, locally and internationally. Prior to that period, Sheikh Atef was a Youth Coordinator and Religious Advisor at Masjid Ar-Rahman in Mansoura, Egypt.
Sheikh Atef was classically trained in the Al-Azhar University School System since he was eight years old, where he received his advanced degree in Islamic studies in 2002. He is also licensed to teach Islamic Studies and to act as a Mufti by Al-Azhar University. He is a Hafiz, trained in different Qira’at (Hafs, Hamza, Naf’a), and has Ijazat in numerous books of Fiqh, Tafseer, Hadith, and Usul Fiqh. He published a book titled ‘Fiqh of Fasting’ in 2014, and is currently working on a book titled ‘Contemporary Issues Facing American Muslims’.
Rizwan Uraizee is a practicing Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in the State of California with an additional designation of a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) serving both for-profit and nonprofit entities in strategic planning, management, financial reporting, accounting and finance. Rizwan’s prior professional experience encompasses various senior management and consulting roles in multiple industries such as financial services, healthcare, technology, business services, manufacturing and real estate. He holds a Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Accounting and Computer Information Systems from the California State University, Pomona.
On the personal front, Rizwan was born and raised in Pakistan and came to the United States as a student to further his education. He is married with five children and has been a part of the Irvine community for the past 20 years.
Fun Fact: Rizwan enjoys many outdoor and indoor actvities but most of all he enjoys spending time with his friends and family.
Arif Iftekhar joined the Board of Directors of ICOI in Jan 2017 and has been in the Irvine community since 2013, and prior to that 7 years in the SF Bay Area and 13 years around the Twin Cities, MN. He is currently Director of Research and Development at Endologix, a medical device company in Irvine, and has an MS in Biomedical Engineering. He served his local Muslim communities as youth director, weekend school principal and teacher, secretary and treasurer of the local Islamic society, and as president of his college MSA and muslim student cultural center. Arif is originally from Bangladesh and grew up in Kuwait before arriving in the US for college.
Fun Facts: Arif loves travel photography and the outdoors, and taking his family on camping trips near water. On the flip side, he loves home automation technology and the internet of things.
