December ICOI Elections
ICOI’s third Elections for the ICOI Board will be held on December 4, 2016, in shaa Allah. You may participate in the Elections (as a nominee or voter) as long as you were in good standing as an ICOI member as of December 4, 2015. The Candidate Forum is currently scheduled for November 18, 2016 and will be mandatory for the candidates to attend.
Three board positions will be open: Two General positions and one Finance position.
Nominations for this initial process are now being accepted with a deadline of October 20, 2016 to submit your nominations. Please use the attached Nomination Form to submit your nomination(s).
Descriptions of both of these roles are attached here, and further information about the Elections are provided in the FAQs below. We have also attached a list of eligible nominees based on ICOI’s membership records.

- How do I nominate someone to be on the Board?
Only eligible ICOI members may nominate other eligible ICOI members to Board positions. If you are an eligible member, you will need to fill out the attached Nomination Form, and send it back to the Nominating Committee at firstname.lastname@example.org, or drop it off at the Nominations box at the ICOI office during office hours. The form must be signed by the Nominator and the Nominee.
- How do I know if I am an eligible ICOImember?
If you registered as an ICOI member as of December 4, 2015, you are eligible to participate in the upcoming election (as a Nominator, Nominee, or voter), as long as you meet the requirements in the By-Laws. The Nominating Committee will review each nomination to ensure that the By-Laws’ criteria are met.
- How many positions are available to be filled?
Three positions will be filled in this election. Two will be general board positions, while the other one will be for members possessing skills in the finance field, an area of critical need for ICOI.
- Why is there a separate Finance position?
The By-Laws envision a Board that consists of Directors possessing functional expertise in four specific areas (Law, Finance, Operations, & Sales/Marketing), and has reserved seats for Directors with such expertise. Currently, there is a critical need for Board Directors with Finance expertise.
- Can I nominate someone for both the Finance and General positions?
No. You may only nominate eligible members for either the Finance or the General positions, not both.
- So basically there will be two separate, but simultaneous elections, one for the Finance position and one for the General position, right?
Yes, the election process will incorporate a simple procedure that will allow voters to elect candidates for both the Finance and General positions. This will ensure that we fill both of these critical roles with qualified, community-chosen Board Directors.
- Can a person be nominated to different positions by different nominators?
No. If a Nominee is approached by two or more Nominators, the Nominee will have to confirm which position he/she is most qualified for. Therefore, a Nominee cannot accept to be nominated for both the Legal and the General position.
- When is the last day to submit a Nomination?
The deadline for submissions using this initial process is October 20, 2016. Any nominations submitted after that date and before November 4, 2016 (30 days before the election and the deadline for any nomination) will require the signature of 20 eligible members under the By-Laws.
- How do I know who will be on the final slate?
After reviewing the submission of the Nomination Forms for eligibility under the By-Laws, the Nominating Committee will send out an initial list of eligible candidates on October 20, 2016. The final slate will be mailed out on November 16, 2016.
- Will there be a Candidate Forum where I can meet or hear from candidates?
Yes. On November 21, 2016, there will be a mandatory nominee forum where members will be able to ask questions of Nominees who may be interested in participating. This will take place at ICOI.
