ICOI Ramadan 2009 Qur'an Competition
Rules & Instructions
To participate, just follow the following four steps:
- Register for the ICOI Quran Competition online at www.ICOI.net
- Record your video recitation to be uploaded to www.YouTube.com. Video must show participants face.
- Upload your video onto YouTube, make sure to tag the video with the following: "ICOI Ramadan 2009 Quran Competition". Please be sure that your full name and the name of the Surah you recited is used as the title of your YouTube video.
- Email your YouTube video link to the following email address: quran.competition@icoi.net (Be sure to include your full name, and phone number in the subject of the email) using the email address you specified on the registration form.

What if you want to keep your video private?
If you would like to keep your video private you can opt to set your video as private and invite only ICOI Quran competition judges to view the video on youtube.com, your privacy will be respected.
If you wish to keep your video private please follow these simple instructions:
When you upload a video on youtube.com, Go to settings; under "broadcasting and sharing options" select private. It will than allow you to specify up to 25 email addresses which will be allowed to view the video. Please add the youtube account icoiqc to your friend list and share the video with the account once your friend request is approved. Videos submitted via this method will not be posted on the ICOI website or shared publicly.

Preliminary Round -- Deadline for ALL entries: Friday, August 21st, 2009 at 11:59PM PST.
- All participants must take part in the preliminary round.
- For this mandatory round you will be required to record a two (2) to five (5) minute video of your recitation.
- This video is to be comprised of any portion of the Qur'an of your choice. (Note: This must be a continuous portion of only one Surah of the Qur'an -- no more than one Surah. No longer than five (5) minutes)
Final Round -- Sunday, September 6th, 2009 -- Only for the top five finalists chosen:
- Five (5) finalists will be chosen from the preliminary rounds.
- For finalists outside Southern California, the Islamic Center of Irvine will book and cover flights and hotels (one night) for ONLY the participants who have been selected to participate in the Finals.
- Finalists will be required to choose three (3) of the following Surahs: two (2) Surahs from Group A, and one (1) Surah from Group B. (Finalists must have Surahs memorized or plan on memorizing them prior to the competition)
Group A: (Choose 2 Surahs)
Group B: (Choose 1 Surah) Surat Al-Rahman
Surat Yusuf
Surat Al-Hashr Surat Ibrahim Surat Al-Mulk Surat Yasine Surat Al-Muzzamil Surat Qaaf Surat Al-Qiyamah Surat Waqia
- Finalists will be asked to recite (read from a Qur'an) selections of the judge's choosing.
An Appeal & Additional Request To ALL Participants
- Please submit only ONE entry per participant. Make sure that your FULL NAME is attached to the video.
- Please do not wait until the last minute to submit your entry. You are encouraged to submit as early as possible. Remember, judges will review ALL of the submissions, and submitting early will ease the judging process.
Timeline:
You must sign up online and submit your video no later than the submission deadline of August 21st, 2009.
Qualifying Individuals:
This competition is open to all Muslims, ages 14 and up.
Reasons for Disqualification:
- Video submissions after August 21st, 2009 will not be considered for the competition. However, posted up as non-competing entries.
- Videos submitted without filling out the online registration form.
- Videos submitted without full name or required information.
- Videos showing friends and family with the participant.
- Videos not showing the participant's face during recitation.
- Multiple entries of the same participant. If you submit more than one video, you will be disqualified (unless you inform us).
- Videos may not be edited or contain any audio enhancements.

Deadlines to turn in Preliminary round videos is Friday, August 21st, 12:00am PST.
The video is to be a 2-5 minute self-recorded video, reciting a segment of their choosing from the Qur'an, from only one surah and should be continuous not bits and pieces.
This competition is only open to individuals residing in the United States.
