"O you who Believe, be of those who stand up firmly for justice as witnesses to Allah. Let not your
dislike for others cause you to swerve from justice. Be just, for justice is closest to piety."
(Qur'an 5:8)
Consider the fact that:
- We are still witnessing a tremendous amount of injustices being perpetrated in many forms in most parts of the world
- Denial of rights (Palestine, Kashmir ... ) are institutionalized leading to desperation on the part of the oppressed
- Global escalation of violence due to the absence of justice and equity
Centrality of Justice to the Islamic Ideology
- A major mission of Prophets throughout history has been the implementation of justice (Qur'an 57:25)
- Manifesting justice is an individual and collective responsibility (Qur'an 16:90)
- Allah's support is for the just for He loves not the unjust
Commitment
- Be just under all circumstances
- Let there be no partiality in your dispensing of justice (Qur'an 5:8) and (Q 4:135)
- Justice is a pre-requisite for peace (Qur'an 2:193)
Need of the hour
More important than demanding justice is to be just.
