Principled Living (part 2)
Principle => As rational and conscientious beings we make informed choices about the moral values we chose to live by.
Personal Ethics => reflect how we implement into our social live those values and standards that we believe in.
Since principles are integral to how we view ourselves and how we view the world around us, it is obvious that these principles (and the values they entail) have consequences that significantly affect our lives.
Ten Principles (the values they entail and their consequences)
- Faith Eemaan
Belief, trust and hope that emanates from living according to the guidelines that are ...- beneficial, both physically and spiritually, individually and socially
- universally applicable
- means of connecting our consciousness with the Divine
- Devotion Ta'bud
Commitment and dedication that arises from focusing our thoughts and our energies on the self and beyond the self; not restricting ourselves to the limitations of ego, but transcending selfishness, cognizant of our submission to Allah. - Accountability Masooliyah
Recognizing the universal law of cause & effect we engage the reality of consequences, responsibility and propriety; we encounter the importance pf proper action and the greater significance of sincere intention - Love Mohabbah
Caring and compassion emanating from a kind heart.
(When we neglect ourselves emotionally we become emotionally toxic to others. We should change our inner dialogue from hate to love so that our inner compassion may surface and love may flourish).
Compassion manifested through daily acts of kindness is an essential element of a fruitful life. Caring for others is the most rewarding and fulfilling act one can engage in. There is nothing more comforting, more gratifying for a conscientious soul than knowing that through a kind word, a helpful act, a cheerful smile you made someone's burden a little lighter, a day little brighter or situation a little more pleasant. - Integrity Istiqaamah
When we align our thoughts, words and actions with the values of truthfulness, honesty and courage, they strengthen the connection between our inner reality and outer expression. Living life in harmony with good values mean living life with integrity and integrity means being yourself at your very best. - Humility Tawaadu'
Maintaining an attitude of gentleness, modesty and unpretentiousness, we realize that being ourselves at our best never requires raising our self-importance. - Moderation I'tadaal
Bringing a sense of balance to every dimension of our lives necessitates taking the middle path and never inclining towards extremes. - Self-Discipline Ta'deeb-an-Nafs
When we have the determination to restrain our lower desires through obedience to higher values, then we develop inner control and a heightened level of moral consciousness. This leads to greater confidence in ourselves; to fulfillment of our higher aspirations and to tremendous self empowerment - Sense of Justice 'Adl / Qist
Justice is the moral balance that reflects the highest degree of fairness, respect and righteousness. The presence of justice indicates a consciousness that is imbued with the seed of piety while the absence of justice is a manifestation of corruption and evil. - Patience & Perseverance Sabr
Throughout life, there are constant efforts and strivings, and we have to endure trials and tribulations, and being able to patiently persevere is one of the mainstays of a principled life.
