Religious Director

Sheikh Atef Mahgoub

Sheikh Atef Mahgoub was the Religious Director at the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh for 7 years. In this capacity he oversaw all religious and educational programs and activities (including the Youth, Outreach and special Ramadan programs). He also led daily, Friday, Taraweeh and Eid prayers, taught weekly educational classes for youth and adults, provided marriage and funeral services and various forms of guidance for community members, and participated in interfaith and outreach activities. He also published scholarly articles and books while interacting with media for television and radio appearances.   He represented the Islamic Center as a guest lecturer at various other organizations and universities, locally and internationally.  Prior to that period, Sheikh Atef was a Youth Coordinator and Religious Advisor at Masjid Ar-Rahman in Mansoura, Egypt.
Sheikh Atef was classically trained in the Al-Azhar University School System since he was eight years old, where he received his advanced degree in Islamic studies in 2002.  He is also licensed to teach Islamic Studies and to act as a Mufti by Al-Azhar University. He is a Hafiz, trained in different Qira’at (Hafs, Hamza, Naf’a), and has Ijazat in numerous books of Fiqh, Tafseer, Hadith, and Usul Fiqh. He published a book titled ‘Fiqh of Fasting’ in 2014, and is currently working on a book titled ‘Contemporary Issues Facing American Muslims’.

Irfan Lateef was born in Illinois and holds BS In Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, a MS in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University, and a JD from Georgetown University. He has worked as an intellectual property attorney in Orange County since 1999.”

Fun Fact: He enjoys travelling.

Randa Serag was born and raised in Pennsylvania. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in biology from Stanford University and her M.D. from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She moved to Southern California in 2007 to complete her residency training, then became a founding member of Hoag Medical Group, where she has worked as a primary care physician since 2012. Randa was an active participant in the ICOI community for 5 years, both as a student and as a volunteer, before she joined the ICOI Board of Directors in 2017.

Fun facts: Randa enjoys hiking and kayaking. She has an odd affection for fundraising dinners. Randa is on a mission to travel to all 50 of the United States with her son before he graduates high school in 2026.

Noreen Rahman was born and raised in Southern California.  She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Comparative Literature, Minors in Spanish and Criminology, Law and Society and a Master’s Degree in Demographics and Social Analysis.  Noreen holds certifications in: sexual assault victim advocacy, suicide intervention and prevention, domestic violence victim advocacy, and reproductive health.  She currently works as Program Director at Girls Incorporated of Orange County, a non-profit aimed at “inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold” and has been with the agency since 2006.  Noreen joined the ICOI Board of Directors in 2015.

Fun facts: Noreen spent one quarter during her undergraduate career in Spain, café hopping, sipping on chocolate con churros, eating tapas and allegedly studying.

Rizwan Uraizee is a practicing Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in the State of California with an additional designation of a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) serving both for-profit and nonprofit entities in strategic planning, management, financial reporting, accounting and finance. Rizwan’s prior professional experience encompasses various senior management and consulting roles in multiple industries such as financial services, healthcare, technology, business services, manufacturing and real estate. He holds a Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Accounting and Computer Information Systems from the California State University, Pomona.
On the personal front, Rizwan was born and raised in Pakistan and came to the United States as a student to further his education. He is married with five children and has been a part of the Irvine community for the past 20 years.

Fun Fact: Rizwan enjoys many outdoor and indoor actvities but most of all he enjoys spending time with his friends and family.

Mohy Abdelgany was born in Cairo, Egypt and immigrated to the United States in 1982. He Has a Master degree in Electrical engineering. Over the last three decades, Mohy held leadership roles in multiple public companies including Rockwell Semiconductors, Conexant System and Skyworks Solutions. Mohy also founded and managed Newport Media; a fabless semiconductor company for nearly a decade prior to its sale in 2014 to Atmel Corp., where he still leads the Wireless Engineering group for the company. Mohy has founded Sabil Al Ihssan; a local non-profit, that he led from its inception until Oct. 2014. He also spearheaded the creation of the ICOI’s very own Community Assistance Program, and currently serves as the Chair of that Council. Mohy is also active in providing classes and Friday Khutbahs at many local masjids.
Fun facts: Mohy enjoys reading and watching good movies.

Eihab Ketat was born in Giza, Egypt and immigrated to the USA in 1995. He hold BS In Biomedical Engineering, AAS in Engineering Technology and is CSSGB Professional.  Currently pursuing his graduates studies.  Eihab’s corporate experience includes Engineering positions in major Medical Device manufacturing including Orthopedic, Cardiovascular, Hearing Aids as well as pharmaceutical. Currently he is a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer.

Fun facts: Eihab loves Reading, walking, swimming, working with children and volunteering.

 

Arif Iftekhar joined the Board of Directors of ICOI in Jan 2017 and has been in the Irvine community since 2013, and prior to that 7 years in the SF Bay Area and 13 years around the Twin Cities, MN. He is currently Director of Research and Development at Endologix, a medical device company in Irvine, and has an MS in Biomedical Engineering. He served his local Muslim communities as youth director, weekend school principal and teacher, secretary and treasurer of the local Islamic society, and as president of his college MSA and muslim student cultural center. Arif is originally from Bangladesh and grew up in Kuwait before arriving in the US for college.
Fun Facts: Arif loves travel photography and the outdoors, and taking his family on camping trips near water. On the flip side, he loves home automation technology and the internet of things.
